Back in high school there was a really lovely guy who was popular with the girls and great fun to be around. His name was J.C.
Now, J.C. wasn’t really any better looking than me or my friends. J.C. wasn’t really dressed better than we were. And J.C. certainly wasn’t any smarter than we were. But J.C. had that “invisible something” that enabled him to have a great conversation with any girl in the school. He had a special something that just made him likeable, popular, and great to have around.
While many of us guys were trying to be cool, and working way to hard at it, J.C. was just a natural, or so it seemed. So one day, after trying to be funny and cool and not really doing all that well, I made up my mind. It was time to go talk with J.C. and find out what was really going on. What was his secret? How was he able to do what he did? Why was he so amazingly popular? I just had to know.
So back in the far corner of the library, back where no one could listen in, I asked him. I told him of my frustration. And then, J.C. gave me his three secrets. And as you can imagine, they remarkably echo the teachings of Neville Goddard.
- J.C. saw other people seeing him as popular and successful.
- No matter what happened around J.C., he chose to feel calm and cool and confident.
- And J.C. spoke to himself – as one who was calm, cool, confident.
J.C. was smart, actually he was brilliant. He understood one of the core teachings of Neville, without ever having heard of him.
“What you imagine as true about you – determines what is going to show up in your world.”
Notice: He didn’t have ANY room for the negative self talk that is often a huge part of every teenager’s life. And because he didn’t have any room for negative self talk, no one that I knew – EVER talked negative about him either. Not the boys. Not the girls. He was one of the most popular kids in school, who got along with everyone, and who always made the day brighter when he showed up.
So I decided to do an experiment. I decided to revise my day – and live it as if I were J.C. I would lay in bed at night, review my day, and notice….
- What would my friends see differently in me – if I were more like J.C.?
- What would J.C. have done – in that circumstance? How would J.C. have handled that situation that for me was uncomfortable?
- If my inner talk was the same as his, what would I have been saying to myself when….?
After doing this primitive form of Revision for about a month, where I lived my daily life as J.C. – I started noticing that I was reacting to the world – differently – more like J.C. I was much easier to talk to, much more fun to be around, and suddenly I was becoming much more popular, even with the girls. Without knowing it, I had formulated an AIM, as Neville teaches – and started living from that aim.
“You must define the one you would like to be… With this aim clearly defined, you must, throughout your conscious waking day, notice your every reaction in regard to this aim. The reason for this is that everyone lives in a definite state of consciousness, which state of consciousness we have already described as the sum total of his reactions to life. Therefore, in defining an aim, you are defining a state of consciousness, which, like all states of consciousness, must have its reactions to life. For example: if a rumor or an idle remark could cause an anxious reaction in one person and no reaction in another, this is positive proof that the two people are living in two different states of consciousness.” – Neville Goddard
TODAY’S TAKE AWAY: Take a moment and notice – are you doing what Neville teaches? Have you formulated an AIM, that redefines who you are, and that changes how you react and behave in your daily life? Are you making the decisions that the ideal you would make? Do you carry yourself as they would?
If you explore this, and the other often overlooked parts of The Neville Goddard Formula – your life will change – your life will transform – in ways that most people can’t imagine – and often when you least expect it.
Thank you for being a member of this amazing Neville Goddard Community.
