This is probably the #1 area where people get confused – and then totally train wreck their manifesting.

Don’t try to “DETACH”!

What most people think “detach” means will STOP your manifesting DEAD in it’s tracks.

Let’s dive in with this Neville Goddard quote today and notice how what Neville teaches here is MASSIVELY DIFFERENT than what other people say to do:

“The purpose of practicing detachment is to separate us from our present reactions to life and attach us to our aim in life. This inner separation must be developed by practice.”

“At first we seem to have no power to separate ourselves from undesirable inner states, simply because we have always taken every mood, every reaction, as natural and have become identified with them.”

“When we have no idea that our reactions are only states of consciousness from which it is possible to separate ourselves, we go round and round in the same circle of problems – not seeing them as inner states but as outer situations.”

“We practice detachment, or inner separation, that we may escape from the circle of our habitual reactions to life. That is why we must formulate an aim and constantly notice ourselves in regard to that aim.” – Neville Goddard

HERE’S THE SHORT SUMMARY VERSION

  1. Neville says to begin by asking right now: “What do you want?”
  2. And then he teaches you to DETACH from YOUR OLD REACTIONS to the world by…. 
  3. Assuming your AIM – your wish fulfilled. 

POWER POINT: Don’t detach from your desires.  FULLY ASSUME THEM – so you can THINK FROM THEM.

(This is where EVERYONE has this exactly backwards.   They detach from their DREAM.   They go into “if it’s God’s will” or “the universe knows best”.   That’s BULLONEY.

Remember:  “God’s will is your will!”

“We must practice separating ourselves from our negative moods and thoughts in the midst of all the troubles and disasters of daily life. No one can be different from what he is now unless he begins to separate himself from his present reactions and to identify himself with his aim. Detachment from negative states and assumption of the wish fulfilled must be practiced in the midst of all the blessings and cursing of life.”  – Neville Goddard

    I wish you could’ve seen the light bulb going off over my head !!
    As one who was raised in Metaphysics ( first as a devout Christian Scientist) and later with Unity and Religious Science, the practice of detaching from one’s wish never made any sense to me. Your article on detachment is brilliant and it finally has all come together for me. THANK YOU!!!

    Thanks for this explanation. I admit I’ve been guilty of mixing Goddard with other LOA teachings especially trying to “let go” or “detach” from the outcome, which I’ve found confusing. Your (and Neville’s) explanation helps make it more clear and seems much simpler to put into practice. Sounds like it comes down to a simple matter of learning to trust what you experience internally in spite of what’s going on externally.

      I’ve read enough now of many authors (none after Joseph Murphy however, except Catherine Ponder), and I used to be confused about detachment, but that confusion came from making the mistake of reading anything online from all these people “jumping on the bandwagon” of LOA. Detachment from the outcome is how what you wish for comes to you — the people, places and/or things. I listened once again to the 12-minute segment of Neville’s first manifestation of going back to Barbados. He did what Abdullah told him to, along with his hilarious thoughts about the whole business, but I’m 100-percent sure he wasn’t thinking well, I wonder if Victor is going to send me a ticket and some $$. If you start thinking about possible channels you’ll drive yourself crazy, you’ll get depressed, and you’re certainly not thinking about your desire. God has ways ye know not of — or words to that effect. Stand still and know that I am God — the means to get your wish fulfilled is God’s business. That’s what I get out of everything that I’ve read (I don’t read any of the current crop of LOA folks, but not one since Henry Harrison Brown to Joseph Murphy talks about detaching from the dream — actually quite the opposite.

    “This teaching begins with self-observation. Secondly it asks, “What do you want?” And then it teaches you to detach from all negative states and attachment to your aim.

    I really enjoyed the deeper understanding of detachment – always been a little tough for me. This month I have been doing so much self observation to the point I find myself constantly thinking “you are doing this wrong and you are going to mess up your state.” And anxiety seems to build. It seems that I am on a roller coaster of “fighting” to get back to my ideal. My emotions seems to go from “self editing”, trying to “make friends with fear,” then I find myself disappointed that my ideal has not manifested yet and then go back to ‘re-focus.” I am wanting a “sentence” I can say to myself that will get me back to the “zone” without criticizing in my inner dialogue. Sometimes when I am so focused on Neville’s or other important things, I need an outside perspective i. e. a sentence that I can say to myself that will calmly get me to detach from negativity, depression, etc. Just thought I would ask you to give me some dialogue that will gently re-focus my constant mind chatter. I am not sure I have accurately stated my challenge but would appreciate any assistance. Thank you for sharing this incredible work.

      And notice, that it does.

      When it starts up again, and it will – STOP.

    Here's the way I would put this to make it more understandable… Detach from creating or having counter-intentions of your wish. For example, when you create an intention – a wish, and then turn around and throughout your waking day have thoughts that are counter to that wish… you are not detached from the wanting. You have to detach from the wanting, and attach yourself to living with the mindset that you already have your wish.

    Thanks for this reminder. I admit there were times when I didn’t actually GET what detachment really meant. Why does it have to be said so mystically? Why can’t it just be taught that your reactions to daily stuff is what stops your manifestation dead in its tracks? I get it now, and boy it makes daily life a LOT easier.

I’ve made it my goal to take the new year and start with a clean slate, to get back to the basics of Neville, and the 3 Fundamental Principles has been a great place to start fresh for me.     this is absolutely powerful. i just started the manifesting mastery 2 days ago and i have started a journal – as you suggested – and started to look at the stories/myths i created. this korero/discussion popped up on my computer today and i am so glad i looked at it = detaching from the negative states. today as i was driving to the store to buy some products to make a tincture i was conscious of my thoughts – and how they were all over the place and dwelling on a not so good situation that took place last year. i had to stop my train of thought and although my mind seemed stubborn i did do it. thank you!

    I have great fun using this detachment practice, especially when the time rolls around each month – for me to be paying bills. Instead of ‘dreading’ letting money go?? I savor the entire process, from beginning to end! Take out the checkbook, get my little pad set up, pick my lucky pen. Open the bills in the window envelopes, smiling as I look at them. Run my fingers over the smooth paper, set the mailing envelope off to the side, with a nice fresh postage stamp in the corner. Write in my return address…Look where it says, “monthly payment”, and always, always pay several months worth at a time. Highlight it in yellow neon marker, signing my name with a happy flourish! That feeling of ownership, of mastery, is real, and gives me such a buzz!! “I am the kind of person who has all the money I need, now and always… to pay these bills”, instead of my former Old Woman Self( I have since buried)..who would whine…”oh, jeez, man, how will I ever be able to afford this..?”
