My short film about the Camino was accepted to a film festival.

It’s a local one I started supporting and attending a few years ago as an observer, and then I decided to make a short film and submit it.

Crazy thing, my friend…

Before I was even halfway done editing it, I was already thinking about what to wear to the festival, what I would say on the panels, what sort of promotional materials I would need to make.

Because in my mind, I had a film premiering at the festival. Even though it was not complete, and even though I had not yet submitted it… and even though the festival was still months away when I had this FIR session…

I had a film in the festival.

One session, and it was done and dusted.

And from that day to this (I received the acceptance email yesterday), I have been simply living as if.

When making travel plans for the fall, I told my wife I had to keep October open because I would have to be in attendance for the premiere of my film.

It was not “if” my film was accepted. It was “my film is in the festival, so I will need to be available.”

And this feeling came about last April after one session, before the film was completed or submitted, as I say.

I don’t know what feels better–yesterday when my acceptance in the festival was actually confirmed… or the four months leading up to yesterday when I was simply living from the state of the wish fulfilled.
