You probably don’t know the Betty technique. You probably don’t know the Betty technique. Oh, it’s so yummy and it’s so simple
and not only will it help you sleep better, it will speed up all your manifesting and it’s so sweet. Promise me you will listen to the very end because… there’s going to be a twist in here that you’ve probably never thought of before. My name is Mr. 2020. You are listening to the Power of Imagination podcast coming to you live from Melbourne, Australia.
Today’s the 23rd of November, Saturday, 743 AM in 47 minutes. I’m doing a live interview. I can’t wait. And wait, it will be so much fun, I’ll let you know about that later. Well, I’ll let you know about it now, too.
And I found out about it two days ago. This fella reached out to me, and he said, hey, how about And I gave him a peek, and I said, cool. And then I started looking forward. And by the way, this fits into the Betty technique, ready? Milton Erickson. I love Milton Erickson. I had a, uh, a man adopt me as a brother.
He was a Milton Ericksonian. He was an Ericksonian psychotherapist. And he found me online because I did something crazy. I made a video about Milton Erickson’s handshake induction. It was a hypnosis thing. How to put someone into a trance using a behavior like a handshake. I was just having fun. I was fascinated with it.
This was twenty some years ago. And, uh, it was all about splitting their attention and moving their attention around.
And that’s where most people leave it. Now Milton Erickson, so I’m just rambling a little bit. That’s okay though, because your mind tends to ramble. And we want to find a way to direct the mind, not control it, but to direct it. And we do that by moving around your attention, which is different than your mind.
So you can attend to something.
You can attend to the sound of my voice. You can attend to what you see around you. You can I don’t know, maybe wiggle your toes and attend to that feeling, that kinesthetic sensation. In other words, I’m inviting you to move the flashlight of attention around. As Neville Goddard says, this is all about a movement within God.
You make there, here. You make then, now. And a lot of people make a mistake, and they struggle a lot with this. The most common mistake is trying to imagine the wish. How do I imagine being married when I’ve never been married? I’m always single, so all I know is single. So now they’ve got a war going on inside between single and married.
And you’ve got to remember, Neville Goddard always says to imagine to experience what implies your wish is fulfilled. In other words, can you imagine someone happy for you? Can you imagine someone asking you for advice? Can you imagine somebody happy for you asking for advice about relationships? Because they see how great your marriage is.
And something magical gets woven together there. We call that weaving the tapestry in JoinRemarkable.com
But I digress. So, what I want you to do is the Betty technique. This was developed by Milton Erickson, and I’ll tell you why it’s so cool at the end here. But here’s what you do. You lay in bed, and you close your eyes.
And I want you to just, for a little bit of time, a few moments, pay attention to anything visual that shows up. Could be a movie, could be an image, could be your puppy, could be a person. Just notice anything visual that shows up. through your closed eyelids. And then I want you to pay attention to the sounds in the room.
Listen to the sounds in the room, even if it’s mostly quiet. There will be something to hear. And after a moment or two, move your attention to your body. Allow yourself to feel, what do the sheets feel like? I use a weighted blanket, and I love the feel of the weighted blanket on me. It’s just gorgeous. And Victoria in the wintertime has these flannel sheets.
Oh my god. They’re just so yummy. But meanwhile, and just move it around a little bit, give attention to the visuals that you notice on the inside. Notice any sounds you hear on the outside. Notice any sounds you can imagine up on the inside. Like the sound of my voice.
Yo baby, yo baby, yo baby, yo. And maybe just notice sensations in your body. Could be inside, could be just noticing what’s my tummy doing? What are my innards up to? Could be the feel of the sheets. And I can promise you, if you just play with moving it around and letting your attention linger a little bit on each of those for a little while, that’ll loosen you up and it’ll also strengthen you.
We like stretching and strengthening in Kung Fu, and we tend not to do any drill unless it does both, strengthen you and stretch you at the same time. And that’s what that does. And so we’re going to relate this real quick. Notice we’re doing changes in process here. Visual auditory kinesthetic, cool stuff inside and outside.
Go play with this for just a moment as we go into the silence.
So Milton developed this, I don’t know if it was with his wife, Betty, or for his wife, Betty, it really doesn’t matter. When I hear the word Betty, I just, I instantly see Betty from the Flintstones. And I can hear Wilma’s voice and Betty’s voice inside my mind. And I can feel what it was like to be a little boy.
And later pebbles came along. Big pebbles, teenage pebbles, oh yeah. But I digress. I can feel different ages too. So Neville had the getting out of the army technique. Pretty much everybody knows this. What did Neville do? He moved around his house and touched things and looked at things. In other words, he moved his flashlight of attention around.
He didn’t try to get it off the problem. He just experienced being home. Feeling a very specific way. Hearing, seeing, touching, feeling. That’s it. And so I invite you to play in a way that doesn’t matter so that you can strengthen what does to play in a way that doesn’t matter. So you can stretch what does.
